Citizen Schools, a non-profit organization that partners with middle schools to run afterschool and expanded learning time programs in Newark, today announced that it earned a Trailblazer Grant from IBM, enabling it to tap into the company’s innovative technology and related services at no charge.

These IBM Trailblazer Grants help recipient non-profit organizations to build up their IT infrastructure and their leadership, management and technology skills. The solutions were developed with non-profit partners, and designed to help them enhance their ability to meet the needs of their communities. By leveraging IBM’s strength in these areas, the new grants align closely with the needs of small-to-mid-sized non-profit and educational organizations.

The IBM Trailblazer Grant offerings include a range of services, as well as data back up, resiliency and hacker vulnerability services, along with donation of key software tools such as LotusLive and Lotus Foundations.

Food and beverage giant Coca Cola Amatil (CCA) has dumped IBM’s Lotus Notes in favour of Microsoft’s Business Productivity Online Standard Suite(BPOS), in an effort to decrease commercial costs and to integrate collaboration across the company.

Beginning the deployment process in March this year, CCA technology manager, Steven Meek, said there were many factors in its decision making process, but the bottom line was the need to reduce costs and “smooth out” the fragmentation associated with Lotus Notes.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) continues to move jobs out of US

Posted on: August 8th, 2010 by admin No Comments

I think it’s a very sad news for the US work force and especially the US IT specialists in US and Tampa Bay area.

The PwC has been restructuring for a while moving  HR jobs to Costa Rica, graphic jobs to Uruguay, and database design to India. I was astonished to find out that 500 information technology positions almost all of which from the Tampa Bay area will be cut and sent to India based Tata Consulting Services.

What would be next for the US IT community? And is there any jobs left for the information technology people in the US?

How come PwC, a US based company has not been able to find a good US based consulting company?

Wondering how PwC clients would like to accept the fact that their confidential information now to be shared with the personnel outside of the US.

Oh… forgot to mention that PwC utilizes the IBM Lotus Notes and Domino technology very heavily across of all their business units and the Lotus Notes support and administration jobs will most likely to go to India.
